Overview

Federal agencies use Internet Protocol Service (IPS) to support a wide range of connectivity requirements that enable users to access the Internet, Government-wide intranets, and extranets.

Benefits

Verizon operates an expansive IP network based on the UUNET backbone that provides connectivity in over 140 countries and operates at speeds up to OC-192—the fastest available. Verizon has over 130 data centers throughout the world, and our network spans more than 3,800 Points of Presence (POPs) worldwide with over 3.2 million dial ports. We also offer:

  • Experience and Customer Knowledge. Under the FTS2001 contract, Verizon provides a combination of Internet dial (56K/128K ISDN) and dedicated circuit IP services. Agencies that currently take advantage of these capabilities include USDA OCIO, USDA APHIS, USDA FSIS, and DOT MARAD. Among OCIS, APHIS, and FSIS, we have 17,000 active Remote Access Service (RAS) users.
  • Comprehensive Coverage and Access. With the world’s largest global IP network and an extended access footprint, our IPS solution is exclusive in the market today. The access footprint consists of dialup 56K and ISDN, Broadband DSL/Cable/Wireless/Satellite, FR/ATM, PLS, Ethernet, to dedicated T1 up to OC-48c—all of which adds up to the flexibility, availability, and capacity to handle any application and file transfer needs—large or small.

Features

Key features of Verizon IP Service include:

  • Converged Service. Secure Interworking Gateway (SIG) provides customers with a way to integrate all service suites—IPS, FRS, ATMS, NBIP-VPNS, PBIP-VPNS, VOIPTS, IPTelS, IPVTS, and CIPS—into a single secure WAN architecture.
  • Internet Dedicated Access. Verizon provides customers Internet dedicated-access connections ranging in speeds from 128 Kbps to OC-48 (including 10/100 Fast and Gigabit Ethernet access), dial-access connections at speeds up to 56 Kbps (analog) and 128 Kbps (ISDN), as well as Satellite, Wireless, cable high speed, and DSL services.
  • Strategic Partners. Some of our strategic partners include: GCI, American Broadband Inc., representing Charter, Time Warner and Cox, CICAT, FiberTower and Gigabeam solution, and Intelsat General. Off-net providers include Covad and New Edge, along with over 50 CLEC and regional IXC carriers.
  • Ubiquitous IP Presence. For public peering, Verizon maintains a global capacity of over 26Gbps, and appears at most of the major public exchange points in countries in which we have an IP presence. Within North America, this includes MAE-East, MAE-West, MAE-Central, and the Ameritech NAP over OC-3c and OC-12c links. Globally, our UUNET IP network connects to many of the world’s major exchange points, including AMS-IX, BIX, BNIX, CIXP, CZ-NIX, DE-CIX, DIX, ESPANIX, FICIX, HKIX, JPIX, LINX, MAD-IX, MAE-Frankfurt, MIX, NIX, NSPIXP2, PARIX, SE-GIX, SFINX, SOX, STIX, and TIX.
  • Cost Effective. Verizon has lit or enabled more than 8,800 facilities around the globe with fiber and provides services to customers in over 120,000 buildings. This will enhance the probability that subscribing agencies will be in lit facilities; and as a result, the loop cost associated with IPS circuits will be reduced.
  • Customer Service. The Verizon commitment doesn’t end at implementation. Our customer service provides 24x7 support — from circuit provisioning and equipment testing to proactive NOC monitoring and IP address allocation.
