Overview

Federal agencies are adopting high-tech data and multimedia applications at a dramatically increasing pace, challenging the bandwidth restrictions of traditional dial-up connectivity. Verizon Circuit Switched Data Service (CSDS) provides the digital connectivity to support high-bandwidth applications, such as on-demand video conferencing, through synchronous and completely digital transmission rates (up to DS1) to on-net and off-net locations.

Features

  • Narrowband Switched 56. This is a switched version of digital private line service, with transmission speeds of 56 Kbps and usage-based pricing. It offers the high performance and reliability necessary for critical data applications such as:
    • Videoconferencing
    • Host file transfer
    • High resolution facsimile
    • Software downloads
    • LAN-to-LAN and WAN-to-WAN interconnections
  • Narrowband Switched 64. An upgrade from Narrowband Switched 56, this CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) -based service provides speed and digital dependability at 64 Kbps for all of the above applications plus music and video store-and-forward applications. This service also provides on-demand bandwidth to supplement private lines, as a cost-effective way to support peak traffic.
  • Wideband Multi-Rate Bearer Service (MRBS). This service allows customers to access dial-up bandwidth on demand by making only one call. For example, a customer can dial-up a certain amount of bandwidth for one application, then access additional applications on the same call, rather than multiple calls. This means a single ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) Primary can be maximized to provide nearly the same bandwidth as a T-1 line - a significant advantage in juggling bandwidth-heavy applications.
  • ISDN HO. This service offers impressive transmission speeds of 384 Kbps of contiguous bandwidth as a single data call. The customer's CPE places one call and the Verizon Fswitch allocates channels to the call, providing customers with quick and easy access to significant bandwidth as needed.
  • ISDN H11. This service offers even higher transmission speeds of 1.536 Mbps, providing contiguous bandwidth through the Verizon network as a single data call. This service transports the 24 channels of PRI contiguously through the network, providing an ideal environment for videoconferencing and other bandwidth-heavy applications, particularly in the context of Global ISDN.
