DOS Defense Detection is an enhanced DDoS detection service that provides the ability to see an attack before it impacts an organization. This service is an add-on for customers of Verizon’s DDoS Shield service. Verizon Internet Service is required for this advanced detection service.

- Monitoring of traffic at all times for quick detection of DDoS attacks.
- Proactive network protection, with detection before interruptions occur. Behavior anomaly detection has the potential to detect attacks of all kinds, including "unknown" attacks on custom code.
- Access to a secure portal to view all reports and determine how the service is performing and if there are changes needed to configurations based on up-to-date statistics and data flow.
- Provides clear information regarding a potential or pending threat, with the ability to set perceived threat parameters and define how to react to those threats.
- Anomaly Detection: Behavior-based anomaly detection compares a profile of all allowed application behavior to actual traffic. Any deviation from the profile is flagged as a potential attack.
- Secure Web Portal with Reporting: Real-time reporting of traffic pattern violations and anomalies.
- Alerting functions: These functions gather data and create baseline, alerting on differentiation and threshold exceptions.
- Customer-defined Alerts/Report Thresholds: The ability for the customer to determine the threat levels in which they want to be notified.
- Continuous Monitoring: Monitoring of critical network segment allows for early detection of security violation patterns.
